Purpose
This SIG is for our learning and OD colleagues who practice in the health care arena. With unprecedented change facing healthcare, it is increasingly important for learning and OD professionals to offer solutions to our organizational leaders to help share the future. As colleagues we can share to share ideas and strategies for initiating and sustaining change in our organizations and give and receive perspective, insight and guidance on the burning issues of the day.
Topic: Employee Engagement
Engagement is best defined as the emotional commitment an employee has towards their employer and the organization’s goals. These employees are the ones actively involved in seeing how their contributions are linked to what the organization needs. These leaders are actively seeking employees’ opinions, knowing what motivates them, offering opportunities beyond the scope of their “normal” job duties, and realizing the members on their team are valuable assets to, not just their own, but to the overall organization’s success.
During this meeting, we will define what engagement means to each of us, discuss the business case for engagement, and share best practices. Some of the research used will include 6 Shortcuts to Employee Engagement by Vicki Hess, RN and Encouraging the Heart by Kouzes and Posner.
